Green Sprangletop is a native warm-season, short-lived, perennial, bunchgrass. It starts growth around April and will become semi-dormant in hot and dry summer months. It is seldom found in deep clay. While it does well in the deep, well-drained sands in Florida it does not do well in the deep, sandy soils in the western area of the United States. In the western part of its range, it prefers rocky hills and canyons. Green Spangletop is primarily used in range seeding mixtures.
