A cool-season perennial bunch grass used primarily in mixtures with other grasses and legumes for grazing purposes. Has shade tolerance which makes it popular for use in orchards. If left to seed, plant becomes course and unpalatable. Tolerates a wide range of soil and climatic conditions and has been utilized in most areas of the United States. Works well in erosion control mixes. Best if spring seeded, but can be late-summer seeded.
