Japanese Millet, also known as Barnyard Millet or Cockspur Grass, is a warm-season grass that is cold-tolerant and coarse. It is well adapted to most soil types but does best in wet, marshy, or swampy soils with full or partial sun.
Japanese Millet works very well for waterfowl food plots because it provides food and cover for a variety of waterfowl species, especially ducks. Some songbirds and upland game birds, like pheasant, are attracted to the small grain.
It is commonly used as a cover crop in mixes with native grasses or legumes. It can also be used as fodder, but it makes poor hay.
