About Softstem Bulrush

Softstem Blurush is a cool-season, rhizomatous, native grass-like perennial. It is characterized by the soft culms that make it stand out from other Bulrush species. This plant prefers areas with full or partial sun, wet conditions and muddy or sandy soils such as marshes or the shores of lakes and streams. This native is excellent for wetlands projects. It provides food and cover for fish, muskrats, raccoons, and otters, as well as, nesting for many water birds like the Marsh Wren and other waterfowl. The fruits of this bulrush are an important source of food for ducks and other birds.
