Tall Dropseed, also known as Composite Dropseed, is a perennial warm-season native grass that gets its name from the way its seed readily falls to the ground.  A bunchgrass, it is more drought tolerant than most other grasses of the bluestem prairie. It usually has a solitary to slightly branched seed head. Tall Dropseed's forage is best in early spring. This species is most abundant on soils that are intermittently wet and dry and usually clay to somewhat silty.
